Welcome
Jeffrey L. R. Kenens
As we move into a new season, we are pleased to bring you the latest edition of the GGI FYI Employment Law News. This issue once again showcases a diverse range of employment law developments from around the world, highlighting the insights and expertise within our Employment Law Practice Group (PG).
One of the topics in this edition is the evolving legal landscape in the United States regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). With the recent executive orders issued by former President Trump and new leadership at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), employers face increasing uncertainty in navigating these changes. The article “Navigating Uncertainty: Best Practices for Private Employers Amid Trump’s DEI Executive Orders and New EEOC Leadership” provides valuable guidance on this pressing issue. Additionally, we are excited to announce that soon we will be hosting a webinar on this topic offering further insights from leading experts within our PG.
From the UK, we examine a significant development in workplace protections, with a new duty imposed on employers to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. This proactive approach marks an important shift in employer responsibilities and compliance requirements. Meanwhile, in Australia, we delve into the recently introduced ‘right to disconnect’ — a novel legal framework that grants employees the ability to disengage from work-related communications outside of working hours, redefining work-life balance in a digital era.
Finally, our publication also features insights into the shifting nature of employment relationships, with perspectives from the Netherlands and Indonesia on the fine line between entrepreneurship and traditional employment. These articles reflect the global evolution of employment structures and the legal frameworks adapting to these changes.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all contributing authors for their dedication and expertise, making this publication an essential resource for GGI employment law professionals worldwide. We hope this edition provides you with valuable insights and thoughtful discussions as you navigate the complexities of employment law in your practice.
