Most businesses relocating to Poland are now from Ukraine, with Ukrainian companies accounting for 23 percent of foreign companies in Poland. These companies operate mainly in the construction, trade, and transport sectors, but there are also many in administration and support services, such as employment agencies.
Helping Ukraine
Poland, Polish businesses, and Polish citizens have created a wealth of opportunities for Ukrainians in Poland this year, and provided astonishing support on many levels. In addition to countless private initiatives, the government has created fast track administrative measures for Ukrainian refugees – accommodating them socially, economically, and from a business perspective. Poland’s Business Harbour Program is dedicated to helping European professionals from the east to relocate to Poland. IT professionals, startups, and mature companies all qualify for this program.
Polish commercial law has matured in the last 20 years and there are few obstacles to foreign companies looking to relocate to Poland. Company incorporation takes little time, is relatively easy, and can even be undertaken online.
Poland’s advantage
Ukrainian refugees can now work in Poland without work permits for two years. Further advantages for companies seeking to relocate include Poland’s EU membership; a huge economic market; the availability of a mostly young, educated and highly skilled workforce; reasonable salaries and low living costs; aid programs such as government grants; and a developed services sector. What’s more, income tax exemptions – as high as 70 percent – are available for companies implementing new investments and carrying out R&D.
In light of the Russian aggression and invasion of Ukraine, many companies might consider Poland as a country of potential risk for investment as it lies close to the scene of an international conflict. However, at present the war is isolated to the eastern part of Ukraine and Poland is an attractive and stable relocation choice.
