Dr Karl Friedrich Dumoulin
While I am writing this editorial spring is awakening here in Germany and I am sure also many of you are excited about the upcoming European Regional Conference on the sunny island of Malta. It will be a fabulous occasion for all members to catch up with old friends, make new ones and discuss the latest developments in business and commerce.
Thanks to the wonderful contributions of our members to this issue of our Practice Group Newsletter we are able to present to you a highly interesting overview on current developments of the law in ten different countries. I warmly recommend all articles to you.
I am very grateful that so many members have again contributed to this issue of our Practice Group Newsletter – in addition to their day-to-day business.
Our lead article “California adopts new early disclosure rule” is written by Peter S. Selvin from our member Ervin Cohen & Jessup LLP (USA). This is followed by an “Introduction the UK’s Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act (ECCTA)” by Louise Hodges from our member Kingsley Napley (UK), the article on how “Online hearings streamline international cases” by Jakub Kulicki from our member Penteris (Poland), and a report on “Scotland’s new Mental Health Moratorium” by Alan Munro from our member Wright Johnston & Mackenzie LLP (Scotland).
The colourful array of interesting contributions is continued by an account of “Compulsory mediation – the story continues” written by Melissa Munday from our member Ward Hadaway (UK), an insight in “Civil litigation cost allocation in the Netherlands” by Michiel Teekens from our member TeekensKarstens advocaten notarissen (The Netherlands), the report on “Texas bankruptcy court issues key rulings impacting claims against secured creditors” by Leslie A. Berkoff from our member Moritt Hock & Hamroff LLP (USA) and the contribution “Directors of companies are accountable to creditors in Italy” by Gianmaria Celardi from our member BussolettiNuzzo Avvocati (Italy).
This issue of our Practice Group Newsletter is concluded by an overview of “Most important Russian court cases on tax matters concerning cross-border transactions in 2023” from Valeria Khmelevskaya from our member KBK Accounting (Russian Federation) and last but not least an “Introduction to Egypt’s dispute resolution: Litigation” written by F. John Matouk, Dr Mohamed Shehata and Mariam Metwally of our member Matouk Bassiouny & Hennawy (Egypt).
Our Practice Group Newsletter features articles both on procedural and substantive law, as well as overviews of selected aspects of litigation in our member’s jurisdictions. I am sure it contains an article also of relevance to your daily practise.
Our Practice Group Newsletter again proofs to be a wonderful venue for GGI members to showcase their expertise. I invite you all to make ample use of this excellent opportunity to enhance your business.
Our next Practice Group meeting will be held during the GGI regional conference in St. Julian’s, Malta (18-21 April 2024). Read a summary on the next page.
