GGI Conference Review
This year's GGI World Conference kicked off on Wednesday evening, 18 October, with the combined reception for the GGI French-Speaking Chapter and the GGI Latin American Regional Meeting.
Both of these meetings were held simultaneously on Thursday morning. French-speaking members strengthened ties, while exchanging experiences and information on competences and areas of practice, in order to build a sound base for joint business opportunities. Even though the focus was on networking during this session, some GGI members presented the latest developments and key updates from their jurisdictions. We are very grateful to Jean Sébastien Lebrun (from host firm Ravinsky, Ryan, Lemoine LLP) for taking the lead and organising the different speakers and presentations.
Dr Miguel Mantelli, Regional CEO GGI Latin America, chaired the Latin American Regional Meeting, where regional members engaged with other Spanish-speaking – it was a vivid and fruitful exchange.
The World Conference itself officially started on Thursday afternoon, with the meetings of the International Taxation Practice Group (ITPG) and the Global Political Economy & International Relations Special Interest Group. New members and first-time time participants met for the famous “Understanding GGI” workshop that afternoon.
In the evening, participants gathered in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel for the Welcome Reception and Dinner, where the many attending new member firms have been introduced.
After the plenary session on Friday morning, GGI Practice Groups and Special Interest Groups provided two rounds on Friday afternoon and another one on Saturday morning. GCG Capital members were also able to meet with GGI members at the GCG M&A Dealmakers Meeting on Saturday. As usual, there were lively and interesting exchanges of the latest developments, experiences and best practices.
On Thursday and Saturday, many participants attended the walking tour through Old Montréal. Located along the St Lawrence River, Old Montréal adds European-style historical wealth to the heart of a North American metropolis.
The highlights were definitely the private circus on Friday night – after all, the city is the birthplace of the famous Cirque du Soleil -- as well as the Gala Dinner on Saturday night, where the band kept everyone dancing until late into the night. What a buzz you get when the #ggifamily comes together.
Here are some memories from the event:
