According to the latest ranking of Accountancy Age Top 21 International Alliances and Associations 2022, GGI is the largest multidisciplinary alliance in the world. Amongst all alliances and associations (including pure accounting ones) the survey has strongly positioned GGI as number two worldwide by cumulated fee income.
Represented in 126 countries with more than 605 member firms, GGI has been ranked as number two worldwide. Against a background of continuing global economic uncertainty, the largest international networks, alliances, and associations across accountancy have maintained positive growth rates.
Every year, Accountancy Age publishes a survey of international accountancy networks, alliances, and associations — a well-regarded source providing readers with the latest picture of the international accountancy landscape. The Accountancy Age Top 21 International Alliances and Associations 2022 promotes excellence in the accountancy industry worldwide by ranking accountancy organisations by combined annual total income. Figures are collected from individual questionnaires, websites, and other publicly available material. The ranking was compiled based on data collected in Autumn 2022.

In December 2022 GGI member law firm Spigulis & Kukainis helped Latvia's largest food producer JSC Dobeles Dzirnavnieks to acquire AB Baltic Mill and two of its daughter companies, Latvia’s second largest grain processor, Rigas Dzirnavnieks, and Estonian company Balti Veski.
JSC Dobeles Dzirnavnieks is Latvia's largest grain processing and food production company. Its main activities are the production of all types of wheat flour, semolina, flour mixtures, pasta, cereal flakes, groats and animal feed.
Spigulis & Kukainis provided transaction structuring services and full legal services during the process of preparing of merger notification and submission to the Latvian Competition Council, which resulted in full approval of this merger; the firm also coordinated these processes in Estonia and Lithuania.
The transaction began in 2014, but transactions of this size require special caution in order not to violate national regulations in any way. Other law firms in Lithuania and Estonia also participated in this transaction, a process that was coordinated by Spigulis & Kukainis.
This transaction was very challenging both from the point of view of commercial law and competition law, especially because JSC Dobeles Dzirnavnieks bought AS Rigas Dzirnavnieks – its closest competitor in Latvia – and thus created a dominant position for the merged entity in several affected markets in Latvia. This transaction was also significant from the perspective of competition law because Latvian Competition Council for the very first time applied standards for the protection of a failing company under competition law according to the European Commission’s Guidelines on the Assessment of Horizontal Mergers (Horizontal Guidelines).
You can find more detailed comment from Competition Council of Latvia here.
Spigulis & Kukainis’ Partner Arturs Spigulis has specialised in competition law for more than 18 years, which is the main reason clients including JSC Dobeles Dzirnavnieks have trusted him for almost two decades.
Arturs Spigulis and his team are well known in the field of Latvian competition law and by Latvian competition law practitioners, and they have a great deal of experience regarding mergers and receiving approval for the same from the competition authority, as well as representing clients regarding various breaches of competition law.
Arturs has also represented clients in competition law matters before the European Commission, including submitting claims regarding abuse of dominant position and state aid, which continue to be reviewed today.
