Looking forward to another excellent meeting in Oslo, hosted by GGI member firm Flattum & Co at the Grand Hotel Oslo. This event is always run in English, and although regional, is open to any members who have an interest in doing business in the Nordic-Baltic region.
We have an interesting group who will speak and share their insights: Fredrik Aukland, Håvard Johnsen & Vilhelm Lae from WANG Toppidrett will be looking at “How Norway Gained Its Present Athletic Status”.
Over the last 30 years, Norway has moved from a position as an insignificant country in most sports to a position with leading athletes in numerous sports. Norway has highly-ranked performers among skiers (ski-jumping, downhill and cross-country skiing), excellent footballers, beach volleyball, handball, track and field and skating).
The change in fortunes started with the establishment of Olympiatoppen in 1989, whose basic idea was to be an interdisciplinary meeting place for the development of competence and performance culture in Norwegian elite sports. Their goal was to cover all sports and all types of academic support necessary to enable the athletes to perform to the best of their abilities.
WANG is a 114 year old private school originally focused on business education, mostly to those aged 14 to 20. In 1984, they started WANG Toppidrett AS, offering high-school education with a twist, they offered an athletics specialization in football. They started offering 12 hours of football training a week as part of their curriculum. WANG Toppidrett is now located five locations in Norway, has 3,396 students, 350 trainers and offers specialization in 31 sports.
WANG Toppidrett established a close relationship with Olympiatoppen and has been involved in the education and training of a number of internationally known athletes during their formative years.
Current well-known former pupils include:
Viktor Hovland – golf
Casper Ruud – tennis
Ada Stolsmo Hegeberg – football women
Magnus Abelsvik Rød - handball
Nora Mørk - handball
Stine Bredal Oftedal - handball
Sturla Holm Lægreid – biathlon
Halvor Engen Granerud – ski jumping
Jarl Magnus Riiber – combined cross-country and ski jumping
At the meeting, no doubt there will be many takeaways for developing your own top performers and teams in the workplace.
Although the event ends in time for you to return home for the weekend, we are planning to have a few sightseeing options on the Saturday for those who would like to stay on to enjoy Oslo. There will be an optional dinner once again at Knut Einer and Inger Rishovd's home on Saturday evening.
Unusual for our German-Speaking Chapters, we have confirmed a second keynote-speaker. In the May edition of INSIDER we have already introduced Special Guest Speaker Prof Dr Bernhard Pörksen and his speech topic “Fact and fake. The new power of disinformation in the digital age”. Now we're pleased to announce that we have also booked Birgit Kelle, one of Germany’s most controversial journalists, to talk about “Noch Normal – Das lässt sich gender!”.
This event promises to deliver thought-provoking content and good bases for discussions, while at the same time providing our members with a superb networking platform and unforgettable fringe events.
If you haven't already registered, why not do so today? Dusseldof is easily accessable and located at the beautiful Rhine river.
The event will be held at the Living Hotel De Medici, in the heart of the historic old town.
Don’t miss this year’s GGI World Conference in Portugal’s picturesque capital. Spread over seven hills, overlooking Rio Tejo, Lisbon has so much to offer. You'll have many opportunities to get some postcard-like photos of this wonderful city, with wonderful panoramas, cobbled alleyways, ancient ruins, white-domed cathedrals, and colourful houses.
Sponsoring host firm is GPA Law Firm, whose offices are just a stone's throw away from the conference hotel, are holding a Pre-Reception Drinks in their offices. Make sure you're signed up for this, as there are only limited spaces available.
There will be 14 Practice Groups, as well as the GCG M&A Dealmakers, meeting at the Conference. Have you booked your presentation slot in one of these sessions? This is an excellent time to showcase your expertise to the other members, in person. Contact the Expert Group Chair directly to book your spot, or Linda Soriton at GGI Head Office to connect you.
We hope that you'll be able to join us, and to connect once again with your GGI colleagues from all over the world. We already have close to 200 participants signed up. Make sure you don't leave it to the last minute to book your space.
Join us for this inaugural GGI officially-organised adventure to Australia. We absolutely love our members on this continent and it's certainly about time we paid them a visit. After all, they've been making the long trips to our conferences for so many years now.
This GGI Asia-Pacific Regional Conference will be filled with many opportunities to connect with fellow GGI members, not just at the formal meetings scheduled but also during the off-site social events and excursions we have planned. GGI members from all regions are welcome to join.
Ross D. R. Forrester and Craig Seddon, from our sponsoring host firm Westcourt Family Business Accountants, are super-stoked to have you visit their city. Perth is not only the capital of Western Australia, it's also the largest city in the state. Located on land on which the aboriginal people of western Australia have lived for well over 38,000 years, the city was founded as the Swan River Colony in 1829. However, it wasn't until the latter half of the 19th century that the city grew in a significant way -- most likely due to the discovery of gold in the region.
But don't just let us tell you about it. Come and find out for yourself. We know you you're going to love this city and that you'll also have a terrific time doing all the things our conferences are well-known for, i.e. networking, sharing expertise, building long-lasting relationships that matter.
