Not long to go now until we are in Tokyo, Japan, for our upcoming Asia-Pacific and World Conferences in November. Our sponsoring hosts firms, Kojima Law Offices and IDEA International Accounting Office, are eager to welcome you to their most exciting city.
In the last issue of INSIDER, we told you that you could experience Tokyo's traditional culture as well as its passion for everything new – and no better way to do this than through the optional excursions that we have planned both pre- and post-conference.
Prior to the start of the conference, there are two amazing daytrips planned. Firstly, on Monday 04 November, there is the option to visit the Tsukuji Outer Market and enjoy a Sushi-Making Experience. Although the main auction house moved premises in 2018, Tsukiji is still alive with shops and restaurants offering the freshest of fish. Sushi dates back to 19th century Tokyo, when it was invented to satisfy the hunger of busy tradespeople in the capital. Try your hand at creating a variety of nigiri and maki rolls under the expert guidance of master sushi chefs.
On Tuesday, there will then be the option to visit Asakusa, the traditional centre of Tokyo and heart of the city during the Edo period (17th to 19th centuries). During this trip, you will get to see Sensoji Temple and perhaps pick up an omikuji fortune, stroll along the bustling Nakamise Shopping Street and find both traditional and modern local crafts, and take a rickshaw ride along the backstreets to get a deeper look into the area's history and culture. Lunch will also be provided.
Yes, there will be a few days of conferencing but before you know it, it'll be all over and we have organised another fabulous trip, this time to see some of the sights of Kyoto, the former capital of Japan, together with your GGI colleagues.
You will leave the hotel early on Saturday morning, transferring from the hotel to Tokyo Station where you will then be taking a shinkansen bullet train (+green class supplement). In Kyoto, you will visit the Golden Pavilion at Rokuonji Temple, the Tenryu-ji Temple and the Sagano Bamboo Grove, the Okochi-San Villa Garden (incl. a green tea service) before checking into the hotel. A "shojin cuisine" vegetarian lunch will be served, and in the evening you will experience an Italian-Japanese fusion dinner where there will be a geisha performance.
On Sunday morning, you'll wake up early to see the Fushimi Taisha Shrine and its thousands of red Torii Gates before breakfast. After breakfast and checking out, you'll then get to visit Sangjusangendo Temple and Nijo Castle. Finally a typical udon lunch before returning to Tokyo, and back to the Hilton Tokyo by 18:30 pm.
