Business & Accountancy Daily’s annual “Top 75 UK Firms Survey 2025” was released on 28 March 2025, and it’s great news for Sumer.
Making its first appearance in the league table of accountancy firms, and coming in at an impressive 13th place, Sumer has experienced 42% fee income growth to GBP 188.5 million, assisted by the backing of Penta Capital.
Quoted extensively in an article on the Business & Accountancy Daily website, James Taylor, Sumer’s Chief Client Officer explained that the past couple of years have been a busy time for Sumer, saying:
In the last two years we’ve done 24 acquisitions, 12 as regional hubs. But we are also expecting to see organic growth continue at a similar pace.
We see Sumer as being the champion for the SME sector. If you go back over the last eight years or so and think about some of the disruptions that have impacted that profile of business, from Brexit, supply chain challenges, the mini budget, and the cost-of-living crisis, it has been a really difficult period and sometimes SMEs are not getting the support that they deserve.
Being the champion of SME businesses means looking out for our clients, supporting them through difficult times and offering an ever-deepening pool of the services they need to prosper. This is now set to include legal services too, which Sumer is building organically.
Sumer – the business champion
Being ranked so highly in this year’s survey reiterates that Sumer really is on track with its goal of being a collaboration hub of the best in business services. Sumer brings together the indispensable value of leading regional practices with the tech, scale and breadth of expertise that only a national organisation can muster. This is known as “The Power of Collaboration” – an approach that delivers growth for the entire organisation and all the businesses they serve.
First and foremost, it means Sumer can champion small to medium-sized businesses across the UK and Ireland, giving them the support they deserve. The team at Sumer recognises that it need to do more than the established players that have gone before.
Sumer is about driving growth. Growth for its clients, growth for the companies in the Sumer Group and growth for its people.
A final word from Warren Mead, CEO and co-founder of Sumer
Commenting on the Sumer ranking, Warren, a life-long accountant who has spent most of his career at a Big 4 firm said, “Ranking 13th in the Business & Accountancy Daily league table for 2025 is more than just a number for Sumer – it’s a powerful validation of our strategic vision and commitment to excellence. When we started this journey, our goal was clear: to be the business champion for SMEs in the UK and Ireland.”
He also commented: “This recognition is a collective achievement. It’s the result of our team’s relentless dedication, our clients’ trust, and our unwavering belief in the potential of small and medium enterprises. Exciting times lie ahead for Sumer.”
Sumer is the leading mid-market accountancy practice in the UK, delivering professional support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is UK’s fastest growing accountancy firm on a mission to champion SME businesses and offer local delivery supported by national expertise.
