Not long to go now before the GGI Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in Bangkok.
As this is a smaller event, especially compared to the GGI World Conference and the GGI European Regional Conference, there will be opportunities for our members to present to each other during the plenary session. The International Taxation Practice Group (ITPG) will also be holding a meeting during the conference, which will be led by Wenyu Dream Zhou (MSA Asia, China).
We have some returning keynote speakers for this event.
Firstly, Dr Thitinan Pongsudhirak is Professor of International Relations at Chulalongkorn University’s faculty of political science and former Director (2006-2022) and currently Senior Fellow at its Institute of Security and International Studies in Bangkok. With more than 35 years of scholarly and think-tank experience, Thitinan has held visiting positions at Johns Hopkins University and Stanford University, among others. He has authored a host of articles, books, book chapters and over 1,000 opinion articles in mass media such as Project Syndicate, The Bangkok Post, Nikkei Asian Review, The Straits Times, South China Morning Post, International New York times, and Financial Times. As an analyst on Thailand/ASEAN-Southeast Asia, his comments and views have appeared regularly in international media, including BBC, CNN, Aljazeera, Bloomberg, CNBC, NHK, DW, among others. Prior to his academic and think-tank career, Thitinan worked for the BBC World Service and the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in London. His work focuses on the comparative politics and geopolitics/geoeconomics of ASEAN/Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific in view of the US-China conflict. With a Harvard-Yenching scholarship, he earned his PhD from the London School of Economics with the UK’s best dissertation prize in 2002.
Jürg Kiener is the Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer at Swiss Asia Capital, bringing over 50 years of experience in the banking industry. He possesses deep expertise across private banking, asset management, and securities markets.
Throughout his career, Jürg has gained extensive global investment experience, having held senior positions in Zurich, Geneva, Johannesburg, London, Guernsey, Hong Kong, and Singapore with two leading Swiss banks — Credit Suisse and Union Bancaire Privée. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in integrating various business units into the banks’ global networks and was instrumental in establishing the Asian (ex-Japan) private banking and product teams.
Jürg has successfully managed global and Asian investment mandates, both on an absolute and relative performance basis, and has covered the resources sector for global portfolios since 1980. At Swiss Asia Capital, he currently oversees resources mandates for institutional and high-net-worth clients, through both funds and managed accounts, with a strong focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
A well-respected voice in the financial community, Jürg is a frequent guest on CNBC Asia, BBC, and Bloomberg, and is regularly invited to speak at major global investment conferences.
We're really looking forward to hearing what our speakers and our members have to share with the group at this meeting. And we simply can't wait for the hugs that are a standard whenever the #ggifamily meet up.
Registration is still availablel via the internal area of the GGI website.
For the first time, GGI would like to bring our North American Managing & Senior Partners together to discuss current issues, such as succession planning, growth strategies and client development. Or exchange ideas on technology, office design and talent management. Brainstorm what is working – and what is not – in your firms.
When we learn from one another, we all benefit.
This meeting is designed to be short but fully packed, beginning with a dinner on Thursday evening and an all-morning meeting on Friday. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided on Friday.
Registration will open before the end of November. Check the GGI website for the registration link.
We invite you to join us in Dubai for our upcoming GGI Expert Group Summit, which will include [extended] meetings of the GGI Indirect Taxes Practice Group, the GGI ITPG Global Tax Summit, and the GGI Real Estate Practice Group.
Dubai is a wonderful global hub for international trade, finance and aviation -- at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa, it certainly lives up to its reputation for connecting people and businesses across continents. What sets it apart from some of the other cities in the region is its seamless blend of world-class infrastructure, exceptional accessibility, luxurious hospitality, and unforgettable experiences.
Especially for our members in the northern hemisphere, this would be a perfect time to catch some sunshine during the cold winter.
We hope that you'll not only be able to join us, but that you'll take an active role by sharing your expertise during one of the many available slots. Please contact the Global Chairs of the Practice Groups if you're interested in presenting:
Steve McCrindle, Global Chair of the Indirect Taxes Practice Group
Alan Rajah, Global Chair of the GGI International Taxation Practice Group (ITPG)
Andrzej Tokaj, Global Chair of the GGI Real Estate Practice Group
